My RIDGID 18V 3-inch saw — coming after vacation
I've owned the RIDGID 18V SubCompact Brushless 3-Inch Multi-Material Saw for a little over a year, and it has turned into one of those tools I reach for constantly. I use it for just about everything—from metal and wood to drywall and plastic.
It's lightweight, surprisingly powerful, and easier to control on certain cuts than the bigger tools I used to grab first. Here's what has stood out in actual use.
Where it really shines
Sheet metal and angle iron
This is one of my favorite uses. The small blade makes it easier for me to stay on a straight line than when I'm using a standard angle grinder. It's especially handy when I want more control without hauling out a bigger tool.
Reversible blade rotation
One feature I especially appreciate is the ability to change the blade's rotation direction with a button. That adds flexibility when approaching a cut from different positions.
Safety note: I've experimented with different blade arrangements, but that isn't a recommendation to run a blade backward or outside its specifications. Follow RIDGID's instructions and use only blades approved for the material, saw speed, mounting and rotation direction.
Saw cutting metal (with proper guarding and PPE)
Wooden stakes and thin plywood
This little saw really shines when I'm making wooden stakes or cutting smaller pieces of plywood, including 1/4-inch birch. For jobs like that, I love not having to drag out a full-size circular saw.
Drywall, shower materials and plastic
With an appropriate blade, it's also useful for cutting drywall and certain plastic materials. That versatility is a big part of why I keep reaching for it. Check material compatibility and control dust, especially with drywall or materials that may contain hazardous components.
What I love—and what I don't
What works
Lightweight handling, strong cutting performance for its size, good control on metal, useful blade-direction selection and versatility across different jobs.
What could improve
Replacement 3-inch blades can be difficult to find locally. I've had better luck sourcing compatible blades online, including Amazon.
Long-term reliability: over a year, zero issues
After a little over a year of using this saw on all kinds of projects, I haven't had a single problem with the motor, battery connection, switches or blade mechanism. That's my ownership experience—not a controlled durability test or a promise that every saw will perform identically.

Hillbilly Tested Verdict
A little saw that punches way above its weight.
For the work I do, this saw is lightweight, powerful, versatile and easy to control. The only meaningful downside I've run into is replacement-blade availability. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
Best for: People who already use RIDGID 18V batteries and want a compact saw for a variety of smaller cutting jobs.

About this review
This review is based on my personal experience with a saw I own and have used for over a year. I haven't been paid by RIDGID to write it. Photos of my actual tool will be added later. I may earn a commission if you buy through the Amazon link above, but that does not affect my opinion.
